# Job search boolean strings

Boolean strings are search commands you paste straight into Google. They surface jobs posted on company career pages, applicant tracking systems, startup job boards, and venture capital portfolio sites, many of which never show up on the big job sites.

## How to use them

1. Copy one of the strings below.
2. Paste it into the search bar at google.com.
3. Press Enter and explore the results.
4. Swap in your own titles and locations.

Three rules make them work:

- Wrap each title or location in straight quotes: "Product Designer"
- Put **OR** (in capitals) between options. Without it, Google looks for pages that contain every option at once and finds almost nothing.
- Group options in parentheses: ("Senior Product Designer" OR "Lead Product Designer")

## Search at more than one level

Run the same search a few times with titles for different levels, depending on your experience. Titles vary a lot between companies, so a "Senior" role at one place can be a "Lead" role at another.

These examples use design titles. Swap in the titles for your own field.

## Add a location

Put the city, state, region, or "Remote" in quotes at the end. Use OR to search several at once.

## Applicant tracking systems

Most companies post their jobs through one of these systems. Start with this string:
